The Miami-Dade County Community Relations Board (CRB) has installed a new executive committee led by Chair, Mr. Mario J. Artecona. He will lead the thirty-member board of prominent county residents for a two- year term. Mr. Artecona is the Executive Director of the Miami Business Forum and has served on the CRB Board since 2004.
The CRB’s primary mission is to intervene and contain community tensions and the members work proactively to foster positive relations between Miami-Dade’s diverse populations.
“Our community’s diversity is one of our greatest assets, but could also be our Achilles heel if there is no constructive interaction and understanding between our populations,” stated Mr. Artecona. “The members of the CRB focus of the whole community, and not just the sum of its parts”.
The CRB installed new leaders at a brief ceremony during its September 16, 2009 General Membership Meeting. The other officers are: Reverend Dr. Walter T. Richardson, Vice Chair; Mr. Reinaldo Valdes, Secretary; and at-large members Ms. Joanne Harvest-Koren, Mr. Farrel Owens, Jr., Ms. Vickie Smith-Jackson and Dr. L. George Yap. County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez administered the oath of office.
Mr. Artecona, 45, is a graduate of the George Washington University. He was born in San Juan Puerto Rico of Cuban parents. He has lived in the City of South Miami since 1987.
